How To Start A Walking Club

Step Five: You need not restrict yourself to local parks, or just walking tracks. Organize special walks through museums, malls, zoos and sites of historical importance to spice up the workout. If the club is organized and well planned, then you can yield more benefits individually. A schedule for the month gives the feeling of purpose. Try to provide an outing a group discussion and a training session at least once a week for the group. For example:

  1. On the first day of every month, a trainer can teach the group warm-up and cool-down stretches and exercises to strengthen the lower body, or techniques to improve speed.
  1. A week later, a nutritionist can speak about the right diet to improve exercise performance or to lose weight.
  2. A seasonal health check up can be done by the doctor in the third week.
  3. There can be socializing in the last week where you bond over fun activities. The members can plan a mini-break to a nearby getaway with interesting walking trails. Or they can go partying on Saturday night.
  4. A walking event can be scheduled and planned for the year and a system can be introduced of registering members for these events so that minimum participation is ensured.
  5. If the club funds permit, a small amount may be collected at each event so that the club can provide facilities like refreshments.
  6. The member who gets the best speed or clocks the best can be rewarded at the end of the year.
  7. The entire family of a member can participate in some events organized by the club.

Any activity which has competition has an extra edge. Pitch the older members against the younger ones. Younger members should have speed walking, and on demand even run. Enroll as many members as possible so that the club will be self sustaining and encourage volunteers to take part of the responsibilities. There are unlimited possibilities where a walking club is concerned. With time, and a touch of ingenuity, it can be much more than a walking club and not just walking for the sake of health. It will increase kinship amongst the people.
