Spa Continental Cuisine is a term loosely used to encompass all non Asian cuisines – at its healthiest. In continental spa cuisine, emphasis is placed not so much on where the recipe originates, but on its nutritional value. Generally, your diet should include a variety of different foods. Plenty of grain products, vegetables and fruit are also a must. Where possible healthier substitutes for foods high in fat and salt should be used. For instance, tofu is an alternative source of protein as it has a much lower fat content compared to meat. In most spas offering continental cuisine, the dishes are nutritious with relatively high in protein but low in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol. This cuisine is also designed to provide adequate amounts of nutrients such as iron, zinc and calcium, and fibre content from vegetables, cereals and pulses. For instance ingredients such as tofu and fresh-from-garden vegetables – namely avocados, spinach and broccoli – are used in the following recipes. Avocados are said to contain the most protein of all fruit, while broccolis are believed to contain high levels of antioxidants. Clearly, a nutritious meal is more than just low calorie counts. Given that it is difficult, if not impossible, to create a single dish that fulfils all your nutritional needs here are at least two dishes – for example an appetizer and a main course – be consumed and fresh fruit taken as dessert.
