Get Rid Of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are easily recognizable by their almost silvery appearance where the skin has been stretched. Stretch marks begin with a reddish color, often turning to a deep purple, and eventually fade out to a lighter shade than your natural skin tone, making them more noticeable. Beginning in the middle layers of the skin, stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched over a period of time, causing loss of elasticity and the breakage of small connective fibres. The most common causes of stretch marks are weight gain, rapid weight loss and pregnancy, when the skin, particularly over the stomach and breasts, is stretched to its limits. Unfortunately, little can be done to minimize stretch marks, and even less to get rid of them completely. Many women find massaging their stomachs and thighs with vitamin E oil can help to prevent stretch marks occurring during pregnancy by giving the skin more elasticity.

Cocoa butter and shea butter also work well as intensive moisturising treatments for stretched skin. Both men and women can experience stretch marks, particularly those whose weight fluctuates: for example bodybuilders and athletes are prone to stretch marks.

Stretch marks are more noticeable on paler skin tones, so if you have this type of skin a good way of disguising stretch marks is to use face tan solutions, which help to reduce their appearance.
