5. Natural Hair Tonic And Paste:
i. Hair Mix For Dry Hair: For dry, damaged hair, apply this mixture after shampooing. Leave for 5 minutes, then rinse.
Ingredients: 30ml/2tbsp olive oil; 30ml/2tbsp light sesame oil; 2 eggs; 30ml/2tbsp coconut milk; 30ml/2tbsp runny honey; 5ml/1tsp coconut oil; blender or food processor; bottle.
Process the ingredients until smooth. Transfer to a bottle, Keep in the fridge and use within 3 days.
ii. Parsley Hair Paste: This hair paste stimulates circulation, aids hair growth and leaves hair healthy and glossy.
Ingredients: 1 large handful parsley sprigs; blender or food processor; 30ml/2tbsp water.
Place the parsley in a blender or food processor with the water. Process until the parsley is ground to a smooth green puree. Apply the lotion to your scalp, then wrap a warm towel around your head. Leave for about an hour before washing your hair as usual.
iii. Rosemary Hair Tonic: This hair tonic made from fresh-smelling rosemary can be used as a substitute for mildly medicated shampoos. It is also effective in controlling greasy hair and enhances the shine and natural colour, especially of dark hair. Use this tonic as a final finishing rinse after shampooing, catching it in a bowl and pouring it repeatedly through the hair.
Ingredients: 250ml/8fl oz/1 cup fresh rosemary tips; 1.2 litres/2 pints/5 cups bottled water; pan; strainer; funnel; bottle.
Place the rosemary and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for approximately 20 minutes, then allow to cool in the pan. Strain the liquid and use a funnel to pour it into a clean bottle. Store in a cool place. Apply as a soothing and invigorating rinse after shampooing.
6. Natural Oil Treatments:
i. Hot Oil Treatment: Any vegetable oil is suitable for conditioning. Just heat the oil until slightly warm. Rub a little into your scalp and then through every part of your hair, massaging gently as you go. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap for 20 minutes, the heat from your head will help the oil penetrate the hair shaft. Shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
ii. Intensive Conditioning: Warm 15ml/1tbsp each wheatgerm and olive oil and massage gently into the scalp. Wrap a warm towel around the head and leave for 10 minutes. Then rinse with a basin of water to which you have added the juice of lemon.
iii. Use Essential Oils: Pure aromatherapy oils can be used for haircare. The number of drops of oil should be diluted in 30ml/2tbsp vegetable oil, which will act as a carrier oil.
Dry hair: rosewood 9, sandalwood 6.
Oily hair: bergamot 9, lavender 6.
Dandruff: eucalyptus 9, rosemary 6.
Mix the required treatment and apply to dry or wet hair. Massage the scalp using the fingertips. Leave for two to five minutes. Shampoo your hair as usual and then rinse thoroughly.
iv. Warm Oil Treatment: These treatments feel better and are more easily absorbed by the scalp. If you apply this treatment once a month, it should improve the texture of your hair and the condition of your scalp.
Ingredients: 90 ml/6tbsp coconut oil; 3 drops rosemary essential oil; 2 drops tea tree essential oil; 2 drops lavender essential oil; dark coloured glass bottle with stopper.
Pour all the ingredients into the bottle and shake gently to mix. Use the oil sparingly on dry hair, the head should not be soaked. Massage the oil in, then cover your head with a warm towel for 20 minutes. Shampoo as normal.
7. Natural Hair Infusions:
Make infusions with the following herbs for the specific uses as listed:
i. Southernwood to combat grease.
ii. Nettle to stimulate hair growth.
iii. Rosemary to prevent static.
