How To Take Care Of Hair After Hair Transplant:
Appropriate care of the transplanted area will minimize crusting and make the hair transplant less noticeable and the healing will be more rapid. The morning after the transplant remove the bandage and shower with comfortably warm water. Allow the water to flow over the transplanted area. Make sure the water is not very strong and direct pressure should not be on the said area. Lift up the hair in the back of your scalp so that the water may get to the sutured areas as well. Medicated shampoo can be applied to the to the transplanted area in a patting or rolling motion. A sponge can be used for it. Do not rub. As soon as the shampoo has been applied to the entire transplanted area, rinse the shampoo off with indirect running water. You may use the rinsed sponge or your finger pads to help you in removing the shampoo, but be careful that you pat the area and do not rub. Stop soaking your head as soon as the shampoo is rinsed off. It is not necessary to remove all of the crusting during the first shower. Repeat the showering and gentle shampooing every four four hours the day following hair restoration surgery./font>
Hair Transplant patients need to go back to hair transplant clinic on the tenth day after hair transplant surgery to remove the staples (for patients who had strip surgery and donor is closed with metal staples) and to reevaluate the donor and recipient area. For the patients who have their donor closed with absorbable sutures, it is recommended to be seen in ten days to assess the healthiness of recipient and donor area. All follow up visits are included in the initial cost of hair transplant surgery and patients won’t be charged for any follow up visits. Recovery times following hair transplant surgery will vary from patient to patient and will be affected by the length, complexity and type of each particular surgery. Many patients are able to return to work and resume normal, light activities within several days following the procedure. Though your doctor will provide you with specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities, you will generally need to avoid strenuous activity as it increases the blood flow to the scalp and may cause the transplants or incisions to bleed. Vigorous exercise and contact sports should be avoided for at least three weeks following surgery, and your doctor may also advise you to avoid sexual activity for at least 10 days. Within six weeks following surgery, the “new” hair may fall out, but new hair growth will usually resume within another five to six weeks. Hair restoration surgery patient should avoid direct sun exposure to the recipient area for about six months after follicular unit transplant surgery. Extreme and direct sun exposure may harm the growing grafts. Sun contact may also cause skin changing the skin color.
