Cancer is a term used for a disease where the abnormal cells divide and invade other tissues. Cancer is one of the worst disease and it spreads to the other parts of the body through lymph and blood systems. All cancer begins in the cells. To understand cancer, you must know what happens when normal cells become cancer cells. The body is made up of many cells of different types. There are billions of cells in each person’s body. These cells grow and divide to make up more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. When the cells become old or damaged, they are replaced with new cells. Sometimes this process goes wrong. The genetic material (DNA) of a cell can become damaged or changed, producing mutations that affect normal cell growth. When this happens, the old cells do not die and new cells are formed which are not needed. The extra cells form a mass of tissue called a tumor. Not all tumors are malignant, some might be harmless too. Not all cancers form tumors. A growing tumor becomes a lump and damages the body’s healthy tissues. This can make a person very sick. Sometimes cancer breaks away from the original tumor and spread to the other parts of the body. Cancer is not contagious, it is not got through germs or the flu. Some unhealthy habits like cigarette smoking and drinking everyday can put you at risk of getting cancer more likely.
