From the time of day to your mood….there are many aspects to help you choose right.
1. Mood:
Make sure you’re completely relaxed. If you’re depressed shopping can be therapeutic but never shop for a scent in a hurry. Spend time in making the right choice.
2. Place: Make your choice in a cool and comfortable place.
3. Time: Shopping in the late evenings may not appeal to everyone but that’s the time when your sense of smell is strongest – a biological reaction to darkness.
4. Skin Tone: Fair skinned individuals tend to get better results with lighter, more delicate scents than those with darker skins which tend to be oilier. Oily skin, on the other hand, preserves a scent so that it lasts longer; oil makes the fragrance sweeter.
5. Perfume, Cologne Or Toilet Water: Colognes and toilet water are diluted versions of perfume; the good ones are half as diluted as the perfume, usually with alcohol. It’s a significantly higher percentage of alcohol that gives them their cooling and refreshing quality. Choose the cologne if the perfume is too overpowering, (Also, in some cases toilet water is stronger than cologne.)
6. Evaluate A Scent Through Cologne Or Toilet Water: It’s best to do this since the perfume version of a particular scent maybe too strong for a coherent analysis and not everyone has the time for the scent to settle down.
7. Personality: Scents say a lot about you – most people process scents and relate them to images that they attribute to the wearer of the particular perfume. So make sure your choice sends the right message about you. If you’re sporty, then grassy is good choice, for the delicate personality, something floral such as rose works well while spicy scents hint at mystery.
8. Shortlist: Once you have taken a whiff of a few scents, give yourself a break by sniffing coffee beans. Try to narrow your selection to one or two.
9. Try The Scent: Try each scent by applying a little on each wrist. Immediately smell it, blow lightly and wait for a few minutes then smell it again, finally dab with a tissue and blow on your wrist after doing so, then take one last sniff.
10. Choose Your Scent: Note the changes the fragrance went through, once applied. Did you like the scent, after it settled, and then finally at the end when the scent lingered on? Make your choice based on all parameters.

Perfume Tips – Use With Care:
1. Never wear scents while sunbathing as some contain citrus oils or other ingredients that react adversely to direct sunlight and heat. Also, never store scents in warm places or places that receive direct sunlight.
2. Always keep scents in cool, dark and dry places, out-of-reach from children and pets. (The alcohol used in perfumes is toxic if consumed).
3. Do not use scents to counter sweat as the chemical reaction can result in a rather pungent combination.
4. After using a scent remember to cap the bottle tightly lest the perfume evaporates.
5. Shop for scents only when relaxed.
6. Do not spray perfumes on broken skin or pigmented patches. Never near your eyes, or lips either.
7. Do not spray perfumes on incandescent surfaces or on open flames – may lead to a fire hazard.
